The Way toward Inner Peace
Teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama
Milan, 7th - 8th - 9th December 2007

His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso, XIV Dalai Lama, will be in Milan upon invitation of the Institute for studies of Tibetan Buddhism.

The visit programme is as follows:

7th - 8th December 2007 (from 9.30 to 11.30 am and from 2.00 to 4.00 pm)
Teachings on the text "Commentary to the Mind of Enlightenment" by Pandit Nagarjuna

According to Buddhism, the main cause of our discomfort and suffering is our innate selfish attitude of caring only about ourselves and of completely ignoring other people. From this innate selfishness stem our personal sufferings, but also social problems like hatred, war, intolerance.

It is possible to overcome this basic selfish attitude by transforming the mind through reflection, reasoning and meditations which were explained by Buddha himself and by the masters who came after him. By generating an authentic altruist attitude to act only for the well-being of other people, we can obtain true inner peace.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama, a living example of altruism, tolerance and non-violence, will explain - on the basis of his own experience - how the ancient teachings of Buddha can be a valid response to contemporary discomfort.

9th December 2007 (from 9.00 to 11.00 am)
Initiation of Thousand-Armed Avalokitesvara

Avalokitesvara is the manifestation of Buddha's universal compassion: in particular, he appears with a thousand arms to symbolize his action of benefiting all sentient beings.

To receive an initiation means receiving from a qualified master like His Holiness the transmission of positive energy, which is the cause to obtain the same qualities of the Deity.

His Holiness will give the initiation on the basis of his own great knowledge and after an accurate and particular preparation which he will carry out expressly for that day with special propitiatory rituals. The ceremony is open to everybody and it will surely give great benefit and true blessing of compassion, loving kindness and non-violence.

9th December 2007 (afternoon)

Great Feast of Peace:

on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the granting of the Nobel prize to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Starting from his personal experience, His Holiness will explain how to improve everyday life, by integrating it with spiritual practice. He will illustrate how to put into practice non-violence and how to join the behaviour of body, speech and mind to compassion.
